On a breezy, Spring Wednesday last month, Wollaton Hall opened its grand doors to On a Day Like This and our trusty team of suppliers, allowing us to photograph one of our latest Styling Coordination themes ‘Enchanted’, within the walls of the great Hall itself. Armed with props and flowers galore we set about transforming Nottingham’s magnificent Elizabethan mansion into a magical, enchanted forest – set for any bohemian-styled, free-spirited bride.
Set in beautiful vast parkland’s, where red and fallow deer roam freely, the Hall oozes historical charm and sylvan character – a perfect combination for our rustic and earthy theme, and a captivating scene for your wedding day.
The building itself has a number of distinctive rooms available for weddings and events – all of them offering the perfect romantic atmosphere and elegant setting for your day.
The Salon sits at the very back of the Hall, with large French-windows opening the room out onto the gardens. With it’s elegant décor, and soft-green palette, the ceremony room was a perfect match for our Enchanted touches of ivy and wood. The light-up palette heart, kindly brought to us by our friend Ollie over at The Word is Love, stood proudly at the end of the aisle, topped with a garland of foliage and framed by our feather-filled balloons – making a jaw-dropping backdrop for any couples saying “I do”!
The Salon room has a maximum capacity of fifty guests, so it’s a wonderful ceremony space for intimate weddings, without feeling too small or formal. Just imagine walking down the aisle of ivy-cladded, chiavari chairs to see your husband or wife-to-be standing at the other end! If you’re lucky, you may even spy a few squirrels and rabbits watching you as you recite your vows..
Moving into the The Grand Hall, our aim was to create a warm and inviting reception room – a perfect option for couples and their loved ones wanting to experience their special day more intimately and informally. Rows of long tables filled the Elizabethan hall, styled with rustic stags, ornate vases, antler candle-holders and beautiful glass elements, and adorned with arrangements of soft Gypsophila and enchanted-themed centre-pieces, hand-picked and home-grown by the very-talented Sarah of Mrs.Umbels.
Our Enchanted theme includes an array of candles, centrepieces, personalised calligraphy, edible favours, fresh flowers and so, so much more to style your guest tables. We select only the best-quality items in our themes and we’re always happy to meet any bespoke requests that you might have. We work hard with industry-suppliers such as Polly & Me and Yummy Little Cakes, to ensure that your guests feel like royalty!
At the other end of The Grand Hall, in front of the beautiful stone screen archway, the dessert-table oozed woodland-charm by way of tree-stump cake stands, tiny forest-creatures and earthy tones. We have had the absolute pleasure of working with Natalie, owner of Yummy Little Cakes for all of our styled photo-shoots, but we especially love her work for our Enchanted styling theme! The cakes are simple yet stunning, the naked-sponge cake blending in perfectly with the wooden tones of our theme. And when topped with oh-so-fitting little deers, delicate foliage and beautifully made toppers by her roomie Polly&Me – they almost look too good to eat! But trust us when we say.. they were definitely, truly, 100% as tasty as they looked!
And of course, our Enchanted theme would not be complete without the Calligraphy work of Allie, a.k.a Polly&Me. Her seating-plan and signage elements, made especially for On a Day Like This, add a unique and personal element to our styling and look absolutely beautiful amongst the rustic tones and clusters of foliage.
Wollaton Hall not only offers amazing rooms for wedding ceremonies and receptions, but it also offers a variety of unique and wonderful photographic opportunities for you lovely couples and your guests – it truly is a venue that has everything!
The Prospect Room, Wollaton Hall’s best kept secret and hidden gem, sits at the very top of the building unbeknownst to many. It’s paint-cracked, blue walls and elegant windows make for such an unbelievable backdrop for wedding-day pictures. We can not believe our luck that we got to shoot here! Styled by us, with Polly&Me‘s hand-written balloons and our staggered balloon backdrop, this may just be our favourite place ever..
The rooftop area, with views spanning across the park and out towards the city of Nottingham, is the perfect spot for intimate pictures or a place to wind-down with your newly married husband or wife, taking the time to appreciate the stunning surroundings in such a relaxing and romantic way.
Outside, within the grounds of the Hall, there are ample places for the perfect photograph. We just couldn’t resist putting our Enchanted garden-swing to good use! Hung from the branches of an old Oak tree and entwined with garlands of white roses and leaves, this is just a small taster of the opportunties that the grounds have to offer! Not to mention, the fun you and your guests could have swinging away after a few sips of wine!
The Camellia house is also stunning, with it’s blossoming camellia-bushes and enchanted feel, it truly is a place full of romance and beauty.
We are so delighted to be Wollaton Hall’s preferred wedding & events, venue styling specialist and so happy to be able to offer this unique and historic building to our couples, for civil wedding ceremonies and wedding receptions.
